NOVOTEST has introduced its latest wireless inspection solution, the LAB UCI PRO hardness tester, designed to advance non-destructive material evaluation across industrial and laboratory environments.
The newly launched device is based on Ultrasonic Contact Impedance (UCI) technology, enabling non-destructive hardness measurement of metallic materials without causing damage to the tested component. The system is positioned to support inspection workflows where traditional destructive testing or bulky stationary systems remain a limitation.
The LAB UCI PRO integrates wireless functionality with a compact, handheld design, allowing inspectors to perform measurements both in-field and in laboratory settings. The device supports a wide range of hardness scales—including HV, HB, HRC, HRB, and HRA—and is pre-calibrated for multiple materials such as steel, aluminum, copper, and alloys.
A key feature of the system is its ability to operate independently or connect via Bluetooth to the NOVOTEST Lab mobile application. The connected platform enables extended inspection capabilities, including calibration, data visualization, statistical analysis, and generation of detailed reports with multimedia inputs such as photos and videos.
Built for industrial usability, the device offers measurement ranges up to 2000 HV with an uncertainty of approximately 4%, while maintaining minimal surface impact through microscopic indentation. This allows testing of thin components, surface-hardened layers, and complex geometries that are often challenging for conventional hardness testing methods.
The wireless hardness tester is equipped with a lithium-ion battery supporting up to 24 hours of operation and operates across a wide temperature range, making it suitable for demanding inspection environments.
From an NDT perspective, the LAB UCI PRO reflects a broader shift toward portable, data-driven inspection tools that combine measurement accuracy with digital integration. By reducing operator influence and enabling repeatable results, the system is expected to support quality control, maintenance inspections, and material verification processes across manufacturing, energy, and heavy industry sectors.
The launch underscores the growing emphasis on wireless, app-integrated inspection technologies within non-destructive testing, where mobility, real-time data access, and traceability are becoming critical requirements in modern inspection workflows.
