Motive has completed a month-long Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) campaign across three major projects in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, delivering a range of inspection, testing and certification services for energy-sector operations.
The campaign covered activities related to structural integrity, lifting safety, non-destructive testing (NDT), load testing and wire rope termination, with project teams working under demanding timelines linked to vessel schedules.
NDT and Inspection Support for Critical Equipment
As part of the campaign, Motive's APAC team carried out Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) on a Knuckle Boom Main Crane Hook to identify cracks, corrosion and other hidden flaws.
The team also conducted eddy current testing on critical weldments of a client's umbilical reel onsite, adding NDT capabilities to the broader inspection programme.
The inspection scope also included lifting gear and equipment such as wire rope slings, lifting slings, shackles, lanyards and man-riding platforms. The equipment underwent compliance checks to support safe operations during critical lifts.
Umbilical Wire Rope Installation
The campaign also included LARS umbilical wire rope installation, during which Motive used a 75Te Spooling Winch with controlled 3Te back-tension to spool 1,700 metres of 41.5 mm diameter wire rope.
The project scope further included socketing of wire rope termination, carried out by specialists to establish secure, high-strength connections.
Load Testing and Certification
Motive also conducted load testing to validate equipment load capabilities. The testing used specialised waterbags and load cells to provide certified strength and weight validation.
These activities formed part of the wider TIC campaign supporting structural integrity and lifting safety across the three regional projects.
Meeting Demanding Project Timelines
A key challenge across all three projects was the requirement to work within short lead times and demanding project schedules associated with vessel operations.
Motive's Engineering and Project Management teams conducted detailed assessments of the umbilical spooling and inspection requirements. The analysis considered environmental conditions, location constraints and resource availability before developing a tailored proposal for the client.
Through planning and coordination, the APAC team completed the required testing, inspection and certification activities while meeting the project deadlines.
