MISTRAS Group has expanded its Los Angeles laboratory with new inspection equipment and manufacturing support services aimed at strengthening its capabilities for the aerospace and defense industry.
The upgraded facility now offers welding, grinding, and rework services, alongside the installation of two CNC machines and vertical turning centers capable of handling components weighing up to three tons. As part of the expansion, the laboratory has also added automated ultrasonic testing systems for plate and bar inspection and coordinate measuring machine (CMM) dimensional inspection.
The Los Angeles laboratory currently maintains NADCAP accreditation for non-destructive testing (NDT) and chemical processing, in addition to Prime certifications and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance. The facility is also expected to achieve NADCAP accreditation for welding.
The laboratory's existing NDT capabilities include radiographic testing (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), penetrant testing (PT), and chemical processing services such as etching, passivation, and alkaline cleaning. The facility supports inspection and processing of forgings, castings, weldments, composite materials, and machined components used in aerospace manufacturing.
"Our customers are looking for trusted lab partners that can help simplify complex production and inspection requirements," said Cliff Schaffer, Senior Vice President of In-Lab Services at MISTRAS.
The expansion follows recent upgrades to the company's Houston laboratory, with additional facility improvements planned across its laboratory network.
MISTRAS provides technology-enabled industrial asset integrity and laboratory testing services to a range of industries, including aerospace and defense, oil and gas, power generation, industrial manufacturing, and infrastructure. The latest investment further expands the company's inspection and testing capabilities to support quality assurance and manufacturing requirements within the aerospace sector.
