Global pipeline inspection technology leader Guided Ultrasonics Ltd (GUL) has unveiled the Wavemaker® G5, a next-generation Guided Wave Testing (GWT) system engineered to elevate field-based pipeline inspection through intelligent design, advanced data acquisition, and seamless user interaction. The launch marks a significant leap forward in nondestructive testing solutions, offering improved efficiency, reliability, and precision across pipeline networks.
Built on over two decades of field deployment experience, the Wavemaker® G5 represents a substantial upgrade from earlier systems in the Wavemaker® Pipe Screening family. It introduces enhanced hardware performance, intuitive software interfaces, and a rugged, compact design tailored for the demanding conditions of real-world inspections—including upstream, midstream, downstream, offshore, and buried environments.
Designed for portability and endurance, the G5 features an IP54-rated enclosure, glove-compatible ultra-bright touchscreen, and dual hot-swappable batteries, ensuring uninterrupted operation in challenging environments. At its core, the system integrates a powerful onboard computer running embedded WaveProX™ software, which enables direct control of the instrument. For added flexibility, the system supports WaveProV™ software on external laptops.
More than just a hardware upgrade, the G5 introduces a reimagined workflow with a strong focus on usability and consistency. Procedure-driven data collection routines and intelligent feature recognition reduce inspection variability while simplifying decision-making in the field. These enhancements empower both new and experienced technicians.
For newer users, the platform offers guidance through built-in prompts and software-assisted interpretation, reducing the risk of human error and ensuring compliant operation from the outset. Experienced professionals benefit from improved oversight capabilities, remote progress monitoring, and a streamlined interface that allows them to concentrate on decision-making and supervision.
The G5 platform is also fully backward-compatible with all GUL Screening Rings and non-ATEX gPIMS® Monitoring Sensors, allowing operators to upgrade seamlessly without overhauling existing infrastructure. A newly developed instrument-to-sensor cable ensures communication with previous-generation hardware, while automatic ring detection, pressure and temperature sensor reading, and module orientation recognition further enhance setup efficiency.
Notably, the system supports simultaneous acquisition of standard and high-frequency data when using Compact™ rings with TRIO modules. This dual-data capability reduces time in the field and consolidates results into a single file, streamlining post-inspection analysis and reporting.
With its intelligent architecture, simplified user interface, and future-ready capabilities, the Wavemaker® G5 is set to redefine guided wave inspection in pipeline integrity management.
