Baker Hughes has announced the launch of the Mentor Zoom inspection camera through its Waygate Technologies business, expanding its portfolio of advanced nondestructive testing (NDT) solutions for challenging industrial environments
The Mentor Zoom is the latest pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera system from Waygate Technologies and builds on more than two decades of PTZ inspection innovation. The system is purpose-built for visual inspection in confined spaces and hard-to-reach locations, including pressure vessels in chemical plants and refineries, industrial piping, underground and storage tanks, sewers, and nuclear facilities. It is engineered to operate in harsh conditions and supports remote inspection and monitoring of repair and maintenance operations at depths of up to 40 meters underwater.
Enhanced Inspection Performance
The Mentor Zoom is equipped with two full-HD camera heads: a 70 mm camera with 10x optical zoom and a 130 mm camera with 30x optical zoom. Both deliver high-quality imagery and smooth 60-frames-per-second video, along with faster pan-tilt movements for improved inspection efficiency. The 130 mm camera includes 4,000-lumen built-in illumination, extending inspection range and enhancing visibility in low-light environments.
The system’s control unit features a removable touchscreen, an integrated joystick, and a three-meter cable to improve maneuverability during inspections. The joystick enables precise control when operators are wearing heavy protective gloves, while the touchscreen supports touch-aim, zoom-to-rectangle, and focus-assist functions for faster and more accurate inspections under normal conditions.
Advanced Data Management and AI Integration
Mentor Zoom supports reliable and repeatable inspections by capturing accurate, textured 3D environmental views and automatically generating detailed 3D models for verification using digital-twin capabilities. Built-in localization and advanced 3D scanning tools help standardize inspection workflows across sites and technicians, improving consistency, reducing errors, and strengthening asset-integrity decisions.
The system also enhances documentation and reporting through on-device report generation and cloud connectivity, reducing inspection turnaround time and associated costs. Inspection findings can be recorded using conventional methods or marked directly in 3D based on the automatically generated mesh of the inspected environment.
Mentor Zoom integrates seamlessly with InspectionWorks, Waygate Technologies’ inspection data management platform, and is equipped with a built-in AI hardware accelerator. This architecture enables future AI-driven enhancements, supporting automated analysis and next-generation inspection workflows.
With the launch of Mentor Zoom, Baker Hughes and Waygate Technologies further strengthen their position in industrial inspection, offering a robust, future-ready solution designed to improve safety, accuracy, and efficiency across critical asset environments.
