David Jack, PhD, has been named the recipient of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing's (ASNT) Robert E. Green Jr. Research Recognition for Sustained Excellence Award, recognizing his long-standing contributions to nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and nondestructive testing (NDT) research.
The award honors individuals who have demonstrated outstanding and sustained contributions to NDE and NDT research through scientific innovation, technical advancement, and long-term impact on the field.
Dr. Jack is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Baylor University, the inaugural Graduate Program Director of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Graduate Program Director of Mechanical Engineering. His research expertise spans physics-based constitutive modeling, experimental polymer characterization, and a broad range of NDE and NDT techniques, including ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing, thermography, X-ray computed tomography, and X-ray diffraction.
Throughout his career, Dr. Jack has secured $22 million in research funding and has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 100 refereed international conference papers. He also holds 28 granted patents, with an additional 14 patent applications pending.
From an NDT perspective, more than 30 of Dr. Jack's patents and patent applications focus on advancements in nondestructive evaluation and testing technologies. His work has contributed to the development of inspection methods and technologies across multiple NDT disciplines.
In addition to his research contributions, Dr. Jack is the lead author of 12 FAA 8100-9 Statements of Compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. He also established Baylor University's ISO 17025-accredited testing and characterization laboratory, which serves both university researchers and industry partners.
The Robert E. Green Jr. Research Recognition for Sustained Excellence Award recognizes individuals whose research has made lasting contributions to the advancement of nondestructive evaluation and nondestructive testing. Dr. Jack's work in materials science, mechanical engineering, and NDT research reflects sustained contributions to the development of inspection technologies and applied engineering solutions.
