Clyde May Receives ASNT Fellow Award for Contributions to the NDT Profession

Clyde May has been named a recipient of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing's (ASNT) Fellow Award, recognizing his outstanding professional distinction and significant contributions to the advancement of nondestructive testing (NDT).

The ASNT Fellow Award honors members who have demonstrated sustained technical excellence, leadership, and service to the NDT profession throughout their careers.

Clyde May currently serves as ASNT President for the 2024–2026 term, is a member of the ASNT Board of Directors, and is Strategic Growth Leader, Digital Transition, for Imaging Solutions at Waygate Technologies. He has worked in the nondestructive testing industry since 1978 and has been an active ASNT member for more than four decades.

An ASNT NDT Level III certified in Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Radiographic Testing (RT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT), May has accumulated more than 30 years of hands-on experience as a nondestructive evaluation practitioner and radiation safety officer. During his career, he has also held numerous Principal Level III and corporate management positions, contributing to technical leadership, operational safety, and inspection quality across the industry.

From an NDT perspective, May has played an active role in advancing industry standards and technical knowledge through publications, presentations, and committee participation. He has delivered presentations at local, national, and international ASNT events and has served as a voting member of multiple ASTM E07 committees and API 1104 subcommittees focused on radiography and nondestructive testing.

May has also contributed to the development of inspection standards through his work with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. He currently serves as Chair of the ASME Section V NDE Standards Committee and participates in several related subgroups and working groups.

According to ASNT, the Fellow Award recognizes individuals whose careers have had a lasting impact on the nondestructive testing profession. May's long-standing contributions to technical leadership, standards development, Society service, and the advancement of NDT practices reflect the achievements recognized by the award.
