China Isotope & Radiation Corporation (CIRC) is expanding its non-destructive testing footprint in China through the acquisition of a controlling stake in Hunan Huifeng Engineering Detection Co., Ltd., in a move that strengthens its position across inspection services and broadens its presence in multiple NDT methods.
The company said its subsidiary, Chengdu Gaotong Isotope Co., Ltd. (CNGT), has entered into an equity transfer agreement to acquire a 51% interest in Huifeng Detection. Following completion of the transaction, Huifeng Detection will become a controlling subsidiary of CIRC.
For the NDT sector, the deal reflects continued consolidation in China’s inspection market and a wider push toward integrating radioactive source capabilities with downstream inspection and testing services.
Huifeng Detection operates in the special equipment inspection and NDT segment and holds a broad range of qualifications under China’s national inspection and testing framework. According to the information provided, its certified capabilities cover radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, eddy current testing, acoustic emission testing, time of flight diffraction, phased array ultrasonic testing, and magnetic flux leakage testing.
The company also has qualifications for periodic inspection of public and industrial pipelines and safety valve calibration, along with CMA and CNAS accreditation.
The acquisition gives CIRC added reach into service areas that are directly relevant to asset integrity and industrial inspection across sectors such as petrochemicals, metallurgy, aerospace, rail transit, and electric power. Huifeng Detection’s business network is said to cover most regions of China.
From an NDT industry perspective, the transaction signals CIRC’s intent to expand beyond its established position in the radioactive source segment and deepen its role in inspection services. The move also follows the company’s earlier acquisition of Xi’an Zhanshi Testing & Engineering Co., Ltd. in 2023, pointing to a broader expansion strategy in the NDT field.
The development highlights three clear industry themes: consolidation in China’s NDT market, expansion of inspection services into more end-use sectors, and growing integration across multiple testing methods within larger industrial groups.
As a result, the acquisition is likely to be viewed less as a standalone ownership change and more as part of a wider effort to build a broader NDT and inspection ecosystem in the Chinese market.
