Bukaka International LLC has successfully completed Oman’s first full refurbishment of beam pumping units (BPUs entirely within the country, marking a major milestone for the Sultanate’s oilfield services and industrial capabilities.
The refurbishment programme covered C912 and C1280 BPU models from multiple international manufacturers, demonstrating the growing technical depth available locally to support mature onshore oil assets. Until now, such comprehensive refurbishment work was typically outsourced to overseas facilities. The completion of this project signals a shift toward greater operational self-reliance and localisation within Oman’s energy sector.
Beam pumping units play a critical role in onshore oil production, particularly in mature fields where artificial lift systems are required to sustain output. By localising the full refurbishment cycle—including inspection, disassembly, reconditioning, testing and recommissioning—operators can extend equipment life, reduce downtime and significantly lower operating costs.
Industry assessments indicate that refurbishment provides both financial and environmental benefits when compared with full equipment replacement. The approach reduces capital expenditure, shortens turnaround times and lowers the carbon footprint by maximising the lifecycle of existing assets.
The project aligns closely with Oman’s In-Country Value (ICV) objectives, which aim to increase domestic industrial participation and build advanced technical capabilities within the energy sector. Local execution of full-scope refurbishment services also reduces logistical complexity, improves response times and strengthens local workforce expertise.
Bukaka implemented a structured, engineering-led refurbishment methodology, beginning with detailed surveillance and inspection to assess structural integrity and mechanical condition. This was followed by systematic disassembly, component evaluation and cost analysis before repair scopes were approved by clients.
Critical components—including frame base assemblies, samson posts, walking beams, crank systems, gear reducers and bearing assemblies—were subjected to precision machining, welding, reconditioning and selective replacement. Non-Destructive Testing ensured compliance with applicable API and ISO standards, while Factory Acceptance Testing confirmed operational performance prior to installation and commissioning.
The company’s Oman operations draw on more than three decades of global experience. Internationally, Bukaka has completed over 1,500 BPU refurbishments and managed more than 6,000 units across manufacturing, installation, maintenance and lifecycle services. Transferring this expertise to Oman enables local operators to access end-to-end refurbishment services without reliance on overseas facilities.
As Oman continues to strengthen the resilience and efficiency of its upstream sector, the availability of fully localised, standards-compliant BPU refurbishment services represents a strategic step forward in developing the country’s industrial ecosystem and long-term energy sustainability.
