Course Content:

The course covers both general theory and sector-specific theory, including:

General Theory:

• Principles of Ultrasonic Testing
• Equipment used in ultrasonic testing
• Testing techniques for welds
• Calibration of testing systems

Sector-Specific Theory:

• Detectability of defects in pipe welds
• Factors affecting the performance of ultrasonic tests
• Codes of practice and relevant standards
• Conducting and recording tests on pipe welds
• Interpretation of test results
• Product technology theory related to pipe welds

Responsibilities of Certified UT Level II:

Upon certification at Level II, you will have demonstrated competence to perform non-destructive testing (NDT) according to NDT procedures. Your responsibilities within the defined scope of competence include:

• Selecting the appropriate NDT technique for the test method
• Defining the limitations of the testing method's application
• Translating NDT codes, standards, specifications, and procedures into NDT instructions suitable for specific working conditions
• Setting up and verifying equipment settings
• Performing and supervising tests
• Interpreting and evaluating results according to applicable standards, codes, specifications, or procedures
• Preparing written NDT instructions
• Carrying out and supervising all tasks at or below Level II
• Guiding personnel at or below Level II
• Reporting the results of non-destructive tests

Training Duration:

The training duration for Ultrasonic Testing Welds (Pipe) - Level II is as follows:

Ultrasonic Testing- Welds:

• PCN UT L2 (for candidates who already have Level I) - Training: 80 Hrs
• PCN UT L2 (for candidates who want direct Level II without Level I certificate) - Training: 120 Hrs
• SNT-TC-1A-Training: 80 Hrs

Ultrasonic Testing- Castings:

• PCN UT L2 (for candidates who already have Level I) - Training: 80 Hrs
• PCN UT L2 (for candidates who want direct Level II without Level I certificate) - Training: 120 Hrs

Ultrasonic Testing- Wrought Product:

• PCN UT L2 (for candidates who already have Level I) - Training: 80 Hrs
• PCN UT L2 (for candidates who want direct Level II without Level I certificate) - Training: 120 Hrs
• Candidates seeking training in multiple sectors will need to complete 5 days of training and examination.

Work Experience Requirement:

To obtain PCN Level II certification in ultrasonic testing, the following work experience is required:

• For candidates who already have Level I: 9 months of supervised work experience in UT
• For candidates who want direct Level II without Level, I certificate: 12 months of supervised work experience in UT
• Please note that the duration of work experience is based on a nominal 40-hour workweek or the legal workweek in your region.
