Our Ultrasonic Testing Welds (Nozzle) - Level I course provides comprehensive training in the application of ultrasonic testing specifically for nozzle welds. Ultrasonic testing utilizes high-frequency sound pulses emitted from a transducer to evaluate the internal structure of materials. This method allows for accurate defect detection and sizing.

Course Content:

During this course, you will cover the following topics:

  • Ultrasonic testing terminology
  • Basic ultrasonic concepts
  • Ultrasound principles
  • Operation and use of flaw detectors
  • Techniques for defect location and sizing
  • Calibration and use of reference blocks
  • Plotting systems for signal analysis
  • Application of written instructions
  • Examination of samples, welds, castings, and wrought products
  • Report writing and discussion of relevant standards and specifications (e.g., BS EN)

Responsibilities of Certified Level I:

Upon certification at Level I, you will have demonstrated competence to carry out non-destructive testing (NDT) according to written instructions and under the supervision of Level 2 or Level 3 personnel. Your responsibilities within the defined scope of competence include:

  • Setting up NDT equipment
  • Performing tests
  • Recording and classifying test results according to written criteria
  • Reporting the results
  • Please note that Level I certified personnel are not responsible for choosing the test method or technique to be used, nor are they responsible for the interpretation of test results.

Training & Exam Duration:

  • The Ultrasonic Testing Welds (Nozzle) - Level I training consists of 40 hours of instruction. Additionally, candidates seeking certification under the PCN scheme must also complete 40 hours of training according to the SNT-TC-1A guidelines. If you wish to receive training in multiple sectors, a total of 3 days of training and examination will be required.

Work Experience Requirement:

  • To obtain PCN Level I certification in ultrasonic testing, a minimum of 3 months of supervised work experience is required.
  • Please note that the duration of work experience is based on a nominal 40-hour workweek or the legal workweek in your region.
