What will I learn

The Radiographic Testing (RT) Level III course is designed for experienced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) personnel who perform and supervise practical inspections using radioactive materials or radiation-emitting devices. While the radiographic interpretation course focuses solely on interpreting radiographic images, both courses cover the same general theory syllabus to ensure a comprehensive understanding of image formation, sensitivity, and correct techniques.

Course Content:

The RT Level III course builds upon the knowledge gained in previous levels and focuses on advanced topics to enhance participants' expertise in radiographic testing. The course content includes:

  • Properties of X-ray and Gamma rays
  • Atomic structures
  • Generation of X-rays
  • Natural and artificial gamma radiation sources
  • Gamma-ray equipment
  • Radiographic film
  • Intensifying screens, exposure charts, calculations
  • Techniques for welding and/or casting radiography
  • Darkroom procedures
  • Radiographic quality
  • Interpretation of radiographs
  • Specifications and procedures
  • Computed and digital radiographic techniques and systems
  • Preparation of procedures

Responsibilities of Certified Level III:

An individual certified at the Radiographic Testing Level III has demonstrated exceptional competence in performing and directing Radiographic Testing operators. Level III personnel possess the following skills and knowledge:

  • The competence to evaluate and interpret results in terms of existing standards, codes, and specifications
  • Sufficient practical knowledge of applicable materials, fabrication, process, and product technology to select Radiographic Testing methods, establish Radiographic Testing techniques, and assist in establishing acceptance criteria
  • A general familiarity with other NDT methods
  • The ability to interpret codes, standards, specifications, and procedures
  • The authority to designate the specific Radiographic test methods, techniques, and procedures to be used
  • The capability to carry out all tasks at all levels within the scope and limitations of their certification
  • The expertise to guide Radiographic Testing personnel at all levels
  • The responsibility to assume full management of the test facility or examination center and its staff
  • The capability to establish, review, and validate Radiographic Testing instructions and procedures for technical correctness

Training & Exam Duration:

  • The duration of the RT Level III training and examination varies based on the individual's experience and specific requirements. Please contact us for more details regarding the required training hours and examination process to achieve full PCN certification in Radiographic Testing Level III.

Work Experience Requirement:

  • To obtain PCN Level III certification in Radiographic Testing, a minimum of 36 months of supervised work experience is required. This experience should involve performing and supervising Radiographic Testing inspections in the field.
  • Note: Work experience is measured in months based on a nominal 40-hour workweek or the legal week of work.
