Overview

The Radiographic Interpretation (RI) Level II course is designed for NDT personnel who specialize in the interpretation of radiographic images resulting from practical inspections using radioactive material or radiation-emitting devices. While the general theory syllabus remains the same for both radiographic testing and interpretation courses, the RI course focuses exclusively on developing the skills required to accurately interpret radiographic images.

While the general theory syllabus remains the same for both radiographic testing and interpretation courses, the RI course focuses exclusively on developing the skills required to accurately interpret radiographic images.

Course Content:

The RI Level II course covers essential topics and techniques necessary for effective radiographic interpretation. The course content includes:

  • Properties and production of X-ray and gamma rays
  • Formation of a latent image
  • Radiographic film
  • Identification of weld and/or casting types and defects
  • Assessment and measurement of radiographic quality
  • Sentencing to specifications
  • Image quality
  • Radiographic techniques
  • Weld technology
  • Interpretation of radiographs
  • Specifications

Responsibilities of Certified Level II:

An individual certified at the Radiographic Interpretation Level II has demonstrated competence in performing radiographic interpretation according to established procedures. Level II personnel possess the following responsibilities within the defined scope of their certificate:

  • Select the appropriate Radiographic Interpretation technique for the test method
  • Define the limitations of the testing method's application
  • Translate NDT codes, standards, specifications, and procedures into NDT instructions suitable for specific working conditions
  • Calibrate and verify equipment settings
  • Interpret and evaluate radiographic results in compliance with applicable standards, codes, specifications, or procedures
  • Prepare written instructions for Radiographic Interpretation
  • Carry out and supervise all tasks at or below Level II
  • Guide personnel at or below Level II
  • Report the results of Radiographic Interpretation tests

Training & Exam Duration:

  • The RI Level II training duration is 56 hours. Additionally, a supplementary 40-hour SNT-TC-1A training is recommended to enhance the overall understanding of the field. The examination duration varies based on the specific requirements and certification process.

Work Experience Requirement:

  • To obtain PCN Level II certification in Radiographic Interpretation, a minimum of 6 months of supervised work experience is required. This experience should involve the practical application of Radiographic Interpretation techniques in the field.
  • Note: Work experience is measured in months based on a nominal 40-hour workweek or the legal week of work.
