PT – Liquid Penetrant Inspection - PCN Level 2

Overview:

Liquid Penetrant Inspection is a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface-breaking defects in non-porous materials like metals, plastics, or glass. This course is available under both ASNT and PCN schemes.

Course Overview:

PCN Level 2 training enhances the understanding of liquid penetrant inspection and enables participants to competently implement this NDT method. The course emphasizes the interpretation of defect indications, comparing the sensitivity of visible and fluorescent methods, and includes a combination of theoretical and practical work using fixed workstations or portable equipment as required.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the Liquid Penetrant Inspection PCN Level 2 training course offered by Array Training Ltd, participants will be able to:

• Understand the factors influencing the quality of fusion welds in steels.
• Recognize characteristics of commonly used welding processes about quality control.
• Interpret drawing instructions and symbols to ensure specifications are met.
• Set up and report on inspections of welds, macro sections, and other mechanical tests.
• Assess and report on welds to acceptance levels.
• Confirm that incoming material meets stipulated requirements and identify the effects of deviations from specifications on weld quality.
• Pass the Level 2 examinations.

Course Content:

This course combines practical workshops with classroom theory and is assessed under examination conditions. The training course covers the following topics:

• History of NDT
• Safe application of Liquid Penetrant Inspection
• Scope of application
• Equipment familiarization
• Origin and nature of discontinuities

Prerequisites:

To receive a BINDT Dye Penetrant Inspection PCN Level 2 certificate, the minimum required duration of training is:

• Level 1: 16 hours
• Level 2: 24 hours (direct entry to Level 2 requires 40 hours)

The required duration of training is fulfilled by attending this training course. Additionally, to receive a BINDT Dye Penetrant Inspection PCN Level 2 certificate, the minimum duration of work experience is:

• Level 1: 1 month
• Level 2: 3 months (direct entry to Level 2 requires 4 months)
• Please note that the examination can be taken before or after completing work experience, but the certificate will only be issued upon providing proof of experience. After passing the examination, a results notice is issued by PCN, and participants have 24 months to complete the required work experience.
