Course Description :

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) is a non-destructive examination technique that utilizes ultrasonic probes to pulse elements individually at different time intervals. This technique provides a higher probability of detection, faster results, more reliable outcomes, and 2D or 3D images with a permanent record of the inspection through recorded data.

We are looking for experienced Level 2 qualified ultrasonic technicians who are interested in expanding their knowledge and gaining a qualification in PAUT. If time is an issue, we offer a blended learning option that allows you to study theory and concepts on your own time and attend classroom sessions for hands-on practical training.

What will you learn?

During this course, you will learn about the principles of phased array inspection, probes, sensitivity, and instrumentation. Additionally, you will learn about scanning with phased array probes, calibration, and checks, software for data collection and analysis, principles of data analysis, software familiarity, and the use of software tools for defect detection and sizing. The course will also cover procedures for verification of flaw existence and position, reporting, and CSWIP and PCN syllabus requirements.

Typical equipment used in the course includes Olympus Omniscan, TD Focus Scan, Sonatest Harfang, Zetec Topaz, and M2M Gekko equipment. If your course is equipment-specific, please contact us to confirm the equipment that will be used for the event.

The training is in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9712 and culminates in a certification examination.

What will you leave with?

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to explain the theoretical background of phased array applications, correctly select probes/wedges to examine welded butt joints, calibrate and set up phased array ultrasonic equipment, locate and evaluate flaws in the weld body, HAZ, and parent metal lamination, analyze scan data for the location and size of defects in typical welded butt joints, differentiate defects from geometric features, compile a written instruction, and accurately report weld condition.

If you are an experienced Level 2 qualified ultrasonic technician who is looking to expand your knowledge and gain a qualification in PAUT, this course is for you.
