Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) is an advanced nondestructive testing (NDT) method that utilizes electronically steered, swept, scanned, and focused soundwaves to inspect materials for flaws. Our Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing Level II course is designed to further enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals in PAUT inspections. By completing this course, students will meet the requirements to become Qualified & Certified in performing Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing.

Review of PAUT I

• Recap of the fundamental principles and concepts covered in Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing Level I
• Consolidation of knowledge and skills acquired in the previous level of training

Basic Principles of PAUT

2.1 Focal law generation

• Advanced understanding of focal laws and their role in beam steering and focusing
• Techniques for generating and optimizing focal laws for specific inspection requirements
• Considerations for adjusting focal laws to enhance flaw detection and characterization

Testing and Scanning Techniques

• Advanced techniques for conducting PAUT inspections, including complex scanning patterns and configurations
• Strategies for setting up scan plans to effectively cover complex geometries and varying material properties
• Utilization of advanced scanning techniques to optimize flaw detection capabilities

Data Collection

6.3 Multiple groupings

• Advanced data collection methods and strategies for complex inspection scenarios
• Utilization of multiple groupings to enhance inspection coverage and increase data accuracy
• Management of multiple data streams and synchronization for comprehensive analysis

Material Evaluation

• 7.1 Advanced Weld Inspection
• In-depth examination of advanced PAUT applications for weld inspection and evaluation
• Identification and characterization of challenging weld discontinuities, such as complex geometries, lack of fusion inclusions, and root defects
