PCN Level III - Ultrasonic Testing (Welds Category)

Responsibilities of a Magnetic Particle Testing Level 2 Certified NDT Professional:

Upon achieving certification as a Level 2 professional in Magnetic Particle Testing, individuals demonstrate competence in performing NDT procedures. As a Level 2 personnel, you may be authorized by your employer to:

• Select the appropriate Ultrasonic Testing technique for the specific test method.
• Define the limitations and applications of the Ultrasonic Testing method.
• Adapt Ultrasonic Testing codes, standards, specifications, and procedures to the actual working conditions.
• Configure and verify the settings of Ultrasonic Testing equipment.
• Conduct and supervise Ultrasonic tests.
• Interpret and evaluate test results in accordance with relevant standards, codes, specifications, or procedures.
• Prepare written instructions for Ultrasonic Testing.
• Oversee tasks performed by personnel at or below Level 2.
• Provide guidance and mentorship for personnel at or below Level 2.
• Report the results of Ultrasonic tests accurately and effectively.

Training and Experience Requirements for Certification:

Full PCN certification is achieved through a combination of training and experience. The following requirements must be met:

• Ultrasonic Testing (per sector - Welds)
• Level 1: 40 training hours and 3 months of experience.
• Level 2: 80 training hours and 9 months of experience.
• Level 3: 40 training hours (plus an additional 80 hours for Level 3 Basic) and 36 months of experience.
• Ultrasonic Nozzle & Node
• Level 2: It is recommended to complete 32 training hours, and certification requires at least 1 Ultrasonic Testing Level 2 Welds certification.
