This comprehensive eLearning course is designed to provide NDT personnel, inspectors, and technicians with the necessary skills to carry out weld inspection, inspection of castings and forgings during fabrication, or in-service inspection. The course is part of a blended learning package for Magnetic Testing and Penetrant Testing, which includes both online modules and in-class practical training, culminating in certification to EN ISO 9712 for both methods.
The online modules can be completed at the student's own pace and convenience, allowing for flexibility in scheduling. The theoretical concepts are taught separately from the practical application of the methods, with questionnaires focused on the theoretical principles and specific applications related to different product and industrial sectors.
The eLearning modules cover three main modules: Product Technology, Magnetic Testing Theory, and Penetrant Testing Theory. These modules include downloadable course notes, pages explaining the underlying theory, self-assessment questionnaires, coursework sections with questions on general and specific theory, and a personal tutor assigned to each certification candidate. Upon completion of the online training phase, students receive their results, which indicate whether they are ready for the classroom element of the course or need further time to study.
It is important to note that students must plan their study time and complete the online modules (including all assessments) before joining the classroom. Access to the online material must be issued no less than 30 calendar days prior to the commencement of the in-class element of the course, and there shall be no exception to this requirement.
The practical classroom training covers the practical aspects of the methods and is conducted in one of TWI training facilities. The course ends with the certification examination, which is in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9712.
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to explain the basic principles of magnetic particle/penetrant inspection methods, carry out magnetic particle inspection/penetrant inspection, write clear and concise inspection instructions and test reports, and meet syllabus requirements for CSWIP and PCN.
