The Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM) Level I course, by the SNT-TC-1A Employer Written Practice, provides comprehensive training and qualification for individuals involved in non-contact electromagnetic inspections using the ACFM technique. ACFM is based on the principle that an alternating current flows in a thin skin near the surface of any conductor. When a crack is present, the current flows around the ends and down the faces of the crack, resulting in disturbances in the associated magnetic field above the surface. By measuring these disturbances, the size and characteristics of defects can be determined using mathematical models. ACFM offers advantages such as non-contact inspection through paint and coatings, suitability for both magnetic and non-magnetic components, and applicability at high temperatures exceeding 600°C.

The ACFM Level I course covers electromagnetic theory, eddy current theory, flux leakage theory, and basic electrical theory to provide a solid foundation in the principles of NDT testing. Participants will learn about the generation and effects of eddy currents, the relationship between frequency and depth of penetration, magnetic properties, and factors affecting magnetic permeability. The curriculum also covers probe types, coil arrangements, probe software, hardware and operating software applications, scanning techniques, signal interpretation, and crack detection methods.

Upon achieving Level I certification, individuals demonstrate competence in carrying out NDT inspections according to written instructions and under the supervision of Level II or Level III personnel. Level I certified personnel are authorized to set up NDT equipment, perform tests, record and classify test results, and report their findings. They are not responsible for selecting test methods or interpreting test results.

Training & Exam Duration:

• The ACFM Level I course requires a total training duration of 40 hours. The course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of ACFM principles, techniques, and applications. Work Experience Requirement:
