Course Description:

Our Advanced Radiation Safety (ARS) training course at Lavender International is designed for those who have already completed basic radiation safety training and want to deepen their knowledge and understanding of radiation safety principles.

The course will cover the following topics:

• Biological effects of radiation, including dose-response relationships and radiation-induced health effects

• Dose limits and how they are established and applied in different settings

• Control and supervised areas, including regulations and best practices for managing these areas

• Risk assessment and the role of the radiation protection advisor (RPA)

• Safe working distances and other measures for minimizing radiation exposure

• Half value layers and how they affect radiation attenuation

• Stay times, which include time, distance, shielding activity, and transportation, and how to calculate them

• IIR 2017 assessment, which involves determining the radiological risk associated with a given activity or situation

• Record keeping and documentation requirements for radiation safety programs

• RPS requirements, including the duties and responsibilities of radiation protection supervisors

• Local rules and site-specific requirements for radiation safety

• TLD, or thermoluminescent dosimetry, which is used to measure radiation exposure

• Passbook, or personal radiation monitoring, which is used to track an individual's exposure to radiation

• Changing the isotope and how to safely handle and dispose of radioactive materials

• Site situations and how to apply radiation safety principles in different settings

The ARS course is a comprehensive and challenging training program that will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to work safely with radiation. The course will consist of lectures, case studies, and hands-on exercises to ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the topics covered. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to demonstrate your proficiency in radiation safety through a final examination.
