Tenaris has reactivated its heat treatment and finishing operations at its manufacturing facility in Koppel, Pennsylvania, strengthening its commitment to supplying domestically produced steel pipes for the US energy sector. The restart follows a $2.1 million investment aimed at restoring operations and reinforcing Tenaris’s industrial production footprint in the United States. As part of the reactivation, the company is hiring more than 80 employees to support the renewed operations.

The Koppel facility plays a central role in Tenaris’s integrated US manufacturing network. The plant handles heat treatment processes, including quenching and tempering, as well as finishing, nondestructive testing, and inspection of seamless steel pipes used in energy and industrial applications.

Commenting on the development, Guillermo Moreno, Tenaris US President, said:

"Reopening the heat treatment and finishing lines in Koppel reinforces the strength of our domestic production capabilities for our customers across the US. Koppel remains a cornerstone of our US operations, allowing us to deliver high quality steel products that support US energy and industrial needs."

Tenaris operates a fully integrated steel pipe manufacturing system across Pennsylvania and Ohio. At the Koppel site, steel billets are produced using an electric arc furnace for seamless pipe manufacturing. These billets are then sent to Ambridge, Pennsylvania, where they are rolled into seamless oil country tubular goods (OCTG) based on customer requirements. The pipes are subsequently returned to Koppel for heat treatment, finishing, nondestructive testing, and inspection. The final stage of production takes place at Tenaris’s Brookfield, Ohio facility, where the pipes are threaded, undergo final inspection, and are prepared for shipment to oil and gas customers across the US.

The reactivation of operations at Koppel follows more than $150 million invested in the adjacent steel shop, including an $85 million exhaust system upgrade completed four months earlier to improve sustainability. The company has also strengthened its US production chain through the acquisition of the Beaver Falls scrap processing yard by Steel Recycling Services, a Tenaris subsidiary, enabling further optimisation of its manufacturing process.

Tenaris currently employs more than 3,600 people across the United States and continues to hire for its Pennsylvania facilities as part of its ongoing expansion and investment in domestic manufacturing.
