About Michel CASTAINGS
Full professor at Bordeaux INP, France, and more than 30 years work in the field of ultrasonic wave propagation and non-destructive evaluation, for application purposes in many industrial fields, e.g. aeronautics, aerospace, transports, energy, civil engineering… Specific investigations in material characterisation, damage detection, localisation and imaging, adhesive bonds testing, design, manufacturing and calibration of air-coupled ultrasonic transducers, modelling and numerical simulations of elastic wave propagation in complex media (anisotropic, heterogenous, viscoelastic materials). Currently building and heading the Innovation Center for Non-Destructive Evaluation (ICNDE) on the campus of Bordeaux, France, using robots equipped with air-coupled ultrasounds, infrared thermography, tera-hertz waves and soon X-ray tomography for the multi-physic inspection of large components (up to 1 metre now and up to 4-5 meters in 2027). Machine learning and A.I. involved for the optimisation of data analysis.
