Overview

XARION Laser Acoustics GmbH is a young innovative technology company from Vienna, Austria.

Founded in 2012, XARION manufactures the world's first membrane-free optical microphone without any moving parts. The patented idea behind XARION’s technology is to detect sound based on its ability to change the speed of light.

This sensor principle was awarded numerous international prizes including the Berthold Leibinger Innovation Award in 2016, one of the world’s most prestigious awards in the field of laser physics and it won several start-up competitions e.g., Code_n, one of Europe’s leading start-up competitions. This novel approach exceeds the frequency range of any state-of-the art acoustic sensor technology by a factor of twenty. This offers uniquely new features to the industry and access to acoustic ultrasound information which has not been accessible before. Areas of application include:

Non-Destructive Testing
  • Automotive: spot-weld inspection without coupling fluid
  • Aerospace: quality control of carbon fibre composites (CFRP)
  • Semiconductor: non-contact end-of-line testing
Process Monitoring
  • Acoustic quality monitoring for laser material processing
  • Real-time monitoring of additive manufacturing processes
  • Intelligent in-line monitoring of production lines and machines
