Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
Sure! I’m an Account Manager at Creaform, and I’ve been in the NDT industry for 15 years now. My background is in international business, and I earned my Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston.
What initially drew you to NDT?
My love for problem-solving and technology. I’ve always been fascinated by how things work and how technology can be leveraged to make processes more efficient.
Walk us through your journey in NDT. How did you get to where you are today?
It’s been an exciting journey! I was fortunate to be mentored by brilliant engineers who were eager to collaborate and share their NDT expertise with me. I brought my experience in 3D Scanning and Modeling to the table, and together, we found innovative ways to solve industry challenges.
What were some of the biggest challenges you faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?
Being a woman in a male-dominated field and not having an engineering background were hurdles. But I never let that hold me back. I worked hard, continuously learned from experts, and surrounded myself with high-achieving yet humble people. I firmly believe in paying it forward, so I make it a point to share my knowledge and experiences with others.
What, in your opinion, makes a great leader in the NDT industry?
A great leader is someone willing to teach and invest in those who are eager to learn and work hard. They should care about both the company’s success and their employees' growth, striking a healthy balance between the two.
Has mentorship played a significant role in your career?
Absolutely! Mentorship changed the entire trajectory of my career. Without my mentors, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
How do you see the role of women evolving in NDT?
It’s still a challenge. We’ve made great progress, but there’s a long way to go. Women often have to be more intentional in their approach to gain the same respect that men receive by default. It’s about balancing strength with grace. I’ve been fortunate to have male mentors who helped me communicate my ideas effectively, and I’d love to share that knowledge with other women.
What are some challenges women face in NDT, and how can they be addressed?
Many challenges are industry-wide, such as gender bias and sexual harassment. In a male-dominated field, we must support each other and educate women on how to navigate difficult situations.
What advice would you give women aspiring to leadership roles in NDT?
Surround yourself with strong women who are willing to mentor and support you. Keep learning, sharing, and teaching—never stop growing!
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration in your career?
God. Everything in my life is rooted in faith, and I’m not ashamed to say that.
What advice would you give young women considering a career in NDT?
- Put on your big girl pants and don’t be too sensitive.
- Know who you are and what you’re worth.
- Be humble and listen more than you talk.
- Ask questions and never be afraid to say, “I don’t know.”
- Understand your strengths and weaknesses, and seek help in areas where you need growth.
- Never stop learning.
Do you have a favourite quote that resonates with you?
"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." – Albert Einstein.
How can the NDT industry further promote diversity and inclusion for women?
Men need to hold other men accountable. Many prefer to look the other way, and that needs to change.
Have you noticed positive changes in diversity and inclusion over the years?
Yes! My company, Creaform, is led by an incredible woman who has created an environment of equal opportunities. She ensures that men and women are held to the same standards, which is all most women want—equal respect and fair treatment.
What changes or advancements do you foresee for women in NDT?
That’s a broad question! I’d have to think about that one.
Any projects you’re particularly excited about?
I’m currently working on advancing the inspection process for tank cars in the rail industry.
What is the most rewarding part of your career?
Providing solutions—I love seeing the excitement in people’s eyes when they realize how my solutions can help them.
