Meet Emilie Peloquin - Evident Scientific
From Welding to NDT Leadership
Emilie Peloquin’s journey from welding to Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a story of resilience, adaptability, and passion. As the Director of Global Product Support at Evident, Emilie exemplifies the transformative power of continuous learning and dedication in a field that she discovered almost by accident.
Discovering NDT
Emilie's introduction to NDT came during her early years as a welder, where she initially thought visual and liquid penetrant inspections were the only methods. An injury led her to pivot to NDE, where she discovered a wide array of inspection techniques, including ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle, and eddy current. This newfound passion led her to pursue an Associate Degree in NDE from Central Piedmont Community College in North Carolina, where she excelled academically and became deeply engaged with the industry.
Climbing the Career Ladder
Emilie’s career took a significant turn when she joined Olympus (now Evident) after graduation. Starting as a technical support specialist, she quickly rose through the ranks to oversee a global team. Her journey underscores the importance of dedication, continuous learning, and leveraging opportunities for growth within the industry. Emilie is also heavily involved in industry initiatives, contributing to the growth and advancement of NDT.
Overcoming Challenges
Throughout her career, Emilie faced challenges common to women in male-dominated fields. However, her commitment to integrity and excellence allowed her to navigate these obstacles successfully. Emilie believes that showing up and doing the work speaks volumes, negating the need to constantly prove oneself. Her leadership is marked by understanding the big picture and the ultimate purpose of NDT.
Mentorship and Advocacy
Emilie is a strong advocate for mentorship and diversity in NDT. She mentors aspiring professionals and actively participates in programs like the ASNT Diversity Committee and the Education Committee. Emilie’s efforts aim to raise awareness about NDT and encourage more women to join the field. She highlights the importance of mentorship in shaping careers and fostering a supportive community within the industry.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Emilie’s participation in events like “Weld Like a Girl” in Colorado Springs showcases her dedication to inspiring the next generation. By exposing high school girls to welding and NDT, she helps them see these fields as viable career options. Emilie believes that increasing awareness is crucial to addressing the industry’s workforce shortage and promoting greater gender diversity.
Vision for the Future
Emilie envisions a future where NDT is recognized for its diverse career paths and significant contributions to safety and quality. She encourages newcomers to seek mentors, get involved in industry associations, and explore the various opportunities within NDT. Emilie’s message is clear: with passion and perseverance, anyone can make a meaningful impact in the NDT industry.
Emilie Peloquin’s story is a powerful reminder of the potential for growth and success in NDT, driven by dedication, continuous learning, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Her journey inspires others to pursue their passions and contribute to a safer and more inclusive industry.
