This session will provide an overview of the IntACom programme, highlighting the challenges that will be addressed in this latest phase. Building on previous knowledge and developments from the IntACom programme, the project aims to introduce new inspection techniques for robotic deployment, including microwave and ultrasonic non-contact methods, mobile robot-deployed NDT, and robot-deployed X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT). All advancements will consider the evolving demands of Industry 4.0.

Dr. Ian Nicholson - Technical Consultant and Business Development Lead
Dr. Ian Nicholson is a Technical Consultant and Business Development Lead at TWI Technology Centre (Wales). With over 30 years of industrial experience, Ian is a Chartered Engineer specializing in systems integration for automated NDT, microelectronics, sensor and software development, and technical project management. He has played a pivotal role in developing novel NDT systems for non-destructive inspection and evaluation, working closely with TWI’s software team, particularly on the application of TWI’s Crystal SDK software for NDT applications.
Sofia Sampethai - Project Leader, Condition and Structural Health Monitoring
Sofia Sampethai is a Project Leader at TWI in the Condition and Structural Health Monitoring section. A Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Welding Institute, Sofia has a background in Chemical Engineering with an MSc from ETH Zurich in Process Engineering. She manages collaborative projects funded by Innovate UK, FP7, and H2020, focusing on condition monitoring, sensor development for composite failure detection, and integrity monitoring for oil and gas industry casings. Sofia’s work is dedicated to the research and development of innovative solutions in condition and structural health monitoring.
