Topic: The next level of non-destructive testing with IWEX 3D ultrasonic imaging
Speaker: Dr. Niels Pörtzgen, Technical Authority - Pipeline Department, Applus
Abstract: IWEX is a novel technology for the inspection of welds in steel structures and pipelines. With advances in materials and welding technology, the requirements and demands for accurate inspection of such welds are ever increasing. The IWEX technology is based on real-time full matrix capture ultrasonic imaging in 2D and 3D, allowing for a high probability of detection and sizing accuracy of possible weld imperfections. In this presentation, the principles of the IWEX technology will be presented. The performance and benefits of the IWEX system will be illustrated with comprehensive examples from actual field practices on new construction pipeline projects.

About Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE)
The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists
started as Lagos Society of Geologist and Geophysicist from the idea of a young
man named Akomeno Oteri, who felt it was desirable to have such a professional
society for furthering both social and technical interaction among professional
colleagues. The idea was developed after he attended one of the monthly
meetings of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists in Dallas USA.
The name later changed to the Nigerian Association of
Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) to accommodate colleagues in other parts of
the country. The society which started with only 10 people attending the
inaugural meeting at Federal Palace Hotel in August 1975 now has 12,073
individual members and 173 supporting corporate members.
