API 653 inspection intervals are determined largely by corrosion rate data from prior inspections. However, for candidate tanks with no inspection history, data from control tanks that are in similar service may be utilized.

Information required for a similar service assessment, cathodic protection considerations, and use of traditional and advanced NDT methods will be presented. Also probabilistic and other additional evaluation methods will be presented for properly analyzing non-matching assessment criteria.
