Xinhong Electronics, a pioneer in advanced X-ray source technology, has secured strategic financing worth hundreds of millions of yuan, led by CNNC Fund with participation from China Vision Valley Fund, Lotus Pond Venture Capital, and Changzhou Jintan District Industrial Mother Fund. The investment will accelerate production capacity expansion and promote the commercialization of Xinhong’s carbon nanotube “cold cathode” X-ray source technology, with applications spanning medical imaging, industrial non-destructive testing (NDT), and security inspection.
Founded in 2015, Xinhong Electronics has achieved stable mass production and global supply of its cold cathode distributed X-ray sources. The company provides full-stack imaging solutions tailored for industrial NDT and flaw detection, alongside applications in medical diagnostics and security systems.
Unlike traditional hot cathodes, the cold cathode X-ray source generates radiation through field emission of electrons from carbon nanotubes. This design delivers significant advantages—faster response speed, lower power consumption, compact integration potential, and multi-focal imaging. These benefits are particularly relevant for industrial NDT, where faster scans and sharper resolution can dramatically enhance defect detection in critical components.
A company spokesperson explained: “The multi-focal distributed X-ray source we developed can switch X-rays at different positions through a new field emission electron control system, realize multi-angle rapid scanning, obtain high-definition image quality, and provide static three-dimensional imaging solutions for various imaging applications.”
With proprietary breakthroughs in high-emissivity carbon nanotubes, high-current cold cathodes, and distributed multi-focal point technology, Xinhong has created advanced imaging solutions capable of overcoming long-standing industry limitations. These include achieving rapid, high-definition, and low-dose imaging—requirements increasingly critical in industrial and medical sectors alike.
The company has already extended its reach into global markets. In 2021, its intraoral low-dose 3D imaging technology—developed in collaboration with a North American partner—was cleared by the US FDA, underscoring its ability to meet stringent international regulatory standards.
This latest funding round underscores strong investor confidence in Xinhong’s cold cathode X-ray technology as a transformative platform for industrial NDT, supporting global demand for safer, faster, and more cost-effective inspection and imaging solutions.
