The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Warri South Chapter, has launched a free skill acquisition programme aimed at empowering 20 selected youths in the region with both indoor and outdoor vocational skills. The initiative marks a key highlight in the 100-day achievement of the Comrade Destiny Noritsegho-led executive committee.
Announced during the NYCN general meeting held on June 30, the training programme includes a wide array of high-demand technical and vocational skills—targeted at improving employability, promoting entrepreneurship, and fostering sustainable income generation for youths in Warri South Local Government Area.
Dual-Focus on Technical and Creative Skill Sets
The outdoor training modules span Onshore/Offshore Oil Drilling Technology, Crane Operation, Pipeline Welding, Scaffolding, Forklift and Escalator Operation, Rigging, Plumbing/Fitting, Electrical Installation, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Satellite Installation, AI Technology, and Industrial Supervisory Safety.
Meanwhile, the indoor vocational skills include Catering and Hospitality, Fashion Design, Makeup and Gele artistry, Computer Training, Networking, CCTV Installation, Website Design, Video Editing, and Ankara-based crafts—such as shoes, bags, bangles, and belts.
According to the NYCN Chairman, Comr. Destiny Noritsegho, “The initiative is part of our commitment to youth development and aligns with our 100-day action plan to empower grassroots youth structures.”
Support and Certification
All 20 beneficiaries will be active members of the affiliate groups that constitute the NYCN Warri South Chapter. NYCN will pay training fees for the participants, while the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment will provide starter packs to outstanding trainees. Successful participants will also earn Trade Test Certificates (Level 3 & 2) upon completion.
As part of the 100-day celebration, the newly renovated NYCN office in Warri South will be commissioned on Saturday, July 5. A symbolic novelty football match between inmates of the Nigeria Custodial Centre, Warri, and NYCN members will also be held to promote social inclusion and community bonding.
Reaffirming his vision for youth engagement and data-driven development, Comr. Noritsegho added that the council will soon commence a comprehensive database project to capture the profiles of all youths in the local government area.
Programme Officer, Comrade Ladan Abdullahi, commended the NYCN Chairman for his leadership, stating, “We appreciate the NYCN Chairman, Comr. Destiny Noritsegho, for good leadership.”
