SGS has expanded its bioanalytical testing capabilities in North America through the acquisition of CMIC, Inc., marking another step in the company's strategy to strengthen its life sciences platform across the region.
The acquisition follows SGS’s recent purchase of Keystone Bioanalytical and further expands its presence in North America, which the company identifies as the largest and fastest-growing market for bioanalytical testing services.
According to SGS, the transaction supports its broader Strategy 27 framework, under which the company aims to double its North American sales between 2023 and 2027. The expanded laboratory network is intended to enhance the company's ability to support drug development programmes requiring high-precision bioanalytical testing.
“North America is the largest global market for bioanalytical testing services, with demand for advanced, high-precision capabilities continuing to grow. With CMIC joining the SGS laboratory network, we are strengthening our ability to support drug development through high-quality bioanalytical data that demonstrate safety and efficacy in complex molecule therapies, aligned with regulatory expectations,” said Joseph Bower.
The acquisition expands SGS’s laboratory capabilities for supporting the development of biologics, gene therapies, and other complex therapeutic products, where regulatory-compliant bioanalytical testing plays a critical role in demonstrating safety and efficacy.
While the announcement is focused on SGS’s life sciences business rather than its industrial inspection operations, it reflects the company’s continued investment in advanced testing capabilities across its global testing, inspection, and certification portfolio.
