Residents in the southwest region of Cerro Gordo County, particularly along Apple and Balsam, will see seismic testing as a prospecting company begins exploration for hydrogen deposits. The tests will employ non-destructive methods designed to ensure roadways and local infrastructure remain unaffected.
The county will receive approximately $6,500 as part of a permit fee agreement tied to the exploration activities. While specialized vehicles and equipment may temporarily affect traffic, officials confirmed that proper traffic control measures will be in place. Residents are encouraged to direct questions or concerns regarding the testing to county authorities.
In addition to the seismic project, county infrastructure improvements are ongoing. A major culvert replacement on Falls Park Drive was completed due to rust damage, with full replacement chosen over lining to ensure long-term durability. Maintenance work continues on narrow bridge culverts in the Rockwell area, with several expected to be replaced this fall to support local farming operations.
Separately, a local hog farmer received approval to install an 18-inch crossroad tube to facilitate manure pumping directly to fields. This approach minimizes road damage compared to traditional hauling methods.
Through these combined efforts, Cerro Gordo County is leveraging advanced non-destructive testing techniques for resource exploration while continuing to enhance infrastructure safety and reliability for residents and agricultural stakeholders
