Marybeth Miceli, C.Eng., has been named the recipient of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing's (ASNT) William F. Via, Jr. Bridge NDT Lifetime Service Recognition, honoring her more than three decades of contributions to nondestructive testing (NDT) and structural health monitoring of bridge infrastructure.
The recognition acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing NDT and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) practices in bridge and highway service, highlighting sustained efforts to improve the inspection, maintenance, and safety of critical infrastructure.
Miceli has more than 30 years of experience in NDT and structural health monitoring, with a career focused on advancing technologies and practices for bridge inspection and asset management. She currently serves as Executive Director of the Nondestructive Testing Management Association, President and Founder of Miceli Infrastructure Consulting, and Co-Founder of We-NDT.
A Chartered Engineer through the British Institute of NDT and a materials science engineer, Miceli pioneered a process of parallel technology transfer to accelerate the adoption of emerging inspection technologies within the bridge industry. Her work has supported the evaluation and maintenance of major infrastructure projects, including the George Washington Bridge, the Verrazzano Bridge, and numerous bridge structures around the world.
In addition to her industry roles, Miceli serves as an appointed member of the National Academy of Sciences' Bridge Preservation Committee, where she leads the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Working Group. She has also co-authored guidance documents for state departments of transportation and the Federal Highway Administration to support bridge preservation and inspection practices.
Miceli has been an active ASNT volunteer since 2001, serving across the Society's Board and Councils. She currently contributes to ASNT's Advocacy Committee, Legislative Affairs Committee, and serves as a Foundation Trustee.
The William F. Via, Jr. Bridge NDT Lifetime Service Recognition recognizes individuals whose work has advanced the application of NDT and NDE in bridge and highway infrastructure. Miceli's career reflects long-standing contributions to inspection technology, infrastructure preservation, and the development of practices that support the safety and reliability of critical transportation assets.
