InnovMetric has expanded its 3D metrology capabilities by bringing industrial computed tomography (CT) expertise in-house through the acquisition of intellectual property and integration of the development team from Digisens. The move strengthens nondestructive evaluation capabilities for complex components, particularly in additive manufacturing environments.

The integration reflects the increasing reliance on advanced nondestructive testing methods as component geometries become more complex. Industrial CT enables volumetric inspection of entire components without material destruction, offering the ability to evaluate internal structures alongside external geometries—an area where conventional optical and tactile measurement methods have limitations.

InnovMetric plans to incorporate the newly acquired CT technology into its PolyWorks platform as an extension module. This will allow users to directly import CT data and perform integrated comparisons between scanned components and their corresponding CAD models within a unified inspection environment.

"This is excellent news for the industry and for our users,“ says Louis-Jérôme Doyon, Vice President of Business Development at InnovMetric. "The synergy between our respective expertise and market positioning is ideal. In response to the growing demand for 3D inspection of complex parts, the integration of Digisens“ specialists strengthens our ability to offer a powerful, fully integrated alternative. Their reputation in the field of industrial tomography is well established and this merger will enable us to provide innovative solutions to users and manufacturers of CT-based measurement systems in the short and medium term."

Digisens brings established expertise in image reconstruction, voxel-based visualization, material integrity analysis, and precise surface determination from CT data. The company has also developed capabilities in GPU-accelerated computation, addressing the challenge of processing large CT datasets efficiently for industrial applications.

"We are proud and honored to become part of InnovMetric, an authoritative reference in the 3D metrology industry,“ explains François Curnier, co-founder of Digisens. "This milestone represents 20 years of innovation and excellence in the field of CT technology - now at the service of PolyWorks users,“ he concludes.

The development signals a closer alignment between production and volumetric quality assurance in additive manufacturing, where nondestructive evaluation methods such as industrial CT are becoming increasingly central to inspection workflows.
