Innometry has shipped non-destructive inspection equipment for a major battery manufacturer's mass-production line for 46-series cylindrical batteries, marking the company's latest expansion in battery inspection technology for next-generation electric vehicle manufacturing.
The shipment follows a supply contract secured in February and includes computed tomography (CT) inspection systems for evaluating electrode alignment and X-ray inspection systems designed to detect foreign materials inside battery cells.
From a non-destructive testing (NDT) perspective, the deployment marks the reported first use of an in-line CT system for inspecting 46-series batteries on a mass-production line. Innometry also said its foreign-object detection system, described by the company as the world's first of its kind, is now operating at a commercial site.
The inspection systems are being deployed as battery manufacturers expand production of 46-series cylindrical cells for next-generation electric vehicles. Major battery manufacturers are establishing mass-production facilities across Europe and North America, with inspection and quality control becoming key elements of production-line operations.
Innometry has combined precision optics with artificial intelligence (AI) software to expand its inspection portfolio for battery manufacturing. In addition to inspection systems for 46-series cylindrical batteries, the company is developing equipment for prismatic batteries used in energy storage systems in North America and electric vehicles in Europe.
“While the timing of project deliveries caused a temporary slowdown in the company’s second-quarter earnings, our underlying business remains strong,” Innometry CEO Lee Gab-soo said. “Major clients continue to invest heavily in building and converting production lines. With multiple project negotiations underway across Korea and China, our growth momentum is set to accelerate through the second half of this year and into 2027.”
Beyond electric vehicle battery inspection, Innometry is also expanding its technology portfolio into advanced applications including glass substrates, microcrack detection, and semiconductor packaging inspection for high-bandwidth memory and co-packaged optics.
The latest shipment adds in-line CT and X-ray inspection capabilities to the company's expanding NDT portfolio as battery manufacturers continue to develop and scale next-generation cell production.
