Titomic Limited, a specialist in cold spray additive manufacturing, has announced the receipt of a EUR 160,000 purchase from the Fraunhofer Institute for Non-destructive Testing IZFP in Germany. The agreement will see Titomic deliver and install a full suite of equipment, including the Titomic D263 cold spray additive manufacturing system, a dust suction installation, robotics integration, and an upgrade to the institute’s existing production booth.
The deployment of this cutting-edge system marks a strategic expansion for Titomic into the European research and development sector, highlighting the demand for advanced additive manufacturing capabilities within applied industrial settings. The Fraunhofer IZFP, a globally recognized leader in nondestructive testing (NDT), will leverage the cold spray technology to research and develop new methods for inspecting the structural integrity of additively manufactured components. This research is crucial for ensuring that parts produced via cold spray meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and reliability for industrial applications.
The collaboration reinforces the growing interdisciplinary relationship between additive manufacturing and NDT. By using the new system to create components, the Fraunhofer IZFP can pioneer advanced NDT techniques to identify potential defects, porosity, and other flaws, thereby helping to establish industry standards for this revolutionary manufacturing process.
