DEXON Technology Public Company Limited (DEXON), a leading innovator in engineering inspection and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), has successfully completed an inline inspection of the Sealine pipeline in the Gulf of Thailand. This operation underscores DEXON’s commitment to enhancing the safety and efficiency of critical energy infrastructure.

DEXON employed its Ultrasonic Testing Rotation In-Line Inspection tool (UT-R), a state-of-the-art technology developed to ensure the highest levels of pipeline safety. The UT-R tool is designed for pipelines transporting low to medium-viscosity liquids, capable of inspecting pipelines at speeds of up to 3-5 meters per minute. It accurately detects internal and external corrosion, dents, and ovality, ensuring continuous operational safety.

In a recent operation, DEXON inspected a 16-inch Sealine pipeline, spanning over 15 kilometres, using the UT-R tool. The inspection, which took 17 hours at a speed of 3 meters per minute, was conducted with precision to gather detailed data. During the inspection, DEXON identified top-of-line corrosion, a common issue in natural gas pipelines that can significantly reduce their lifespan.

The inspection process began with the installation of the UT-R tool into the pipeline via a Launcher, using seawater to transmit ultrasonic signals and propel the device. The tool moved through the Riser, inspecting the pipe walls for internal and external damage simultaneously. After traversing the Riser and Elbow into the Sealine, the tool collected critical data for the first 3 kilometers—a key area prone to damage. It then utilized pressure from the production well to push the tool to the Receiver on another platform.

Once retrieved, the data was downloaded and analyzed by a team of data engineers to assess pipeline damage and categorize defects. The comprehensive inspection results enable clients to plan maintenance schedules effectively, ensuring the efficient management and long-term safety of the pipeline system.
