Global testing, inspection, and certification group DEKRA has sold its South African non-destructive testing (NDT) and inspection business, DEKRA Industrial RSA, to Raysonics Investment, a local consortium formed by experienced South African NDT and industrial inspection professionals. Although the transaction was completed in late November, it has now been publicly announced.
The sale follows DEKRA’s strategic decision to concentrate its operations on Europe, Asia, and North America. As part of the transition, DEKRA Industrial RSA will be renamed and rebranded as Raysonics Industrial, restoring the company’s original name that was in place before its acquisition by DEKRA more than a decade ago.
According to Lothar Weihofen, DEKRA Industrial RSA country manager, the transition ensures continuity for both employees and clients.
"By transferring ownership to a highly capable and experienced local consortium, we ensure continuity for employees and clients," he said. "The rebranding to Raysonics Industrial reflects the company’s roots and ensures the business continues to thrive locally as a powerful brand synonymous with quality, safety expertise and credibility in the NDT and inspection sector."
The incoming leadership has outlined plans to build on the company’s established market position. Bennie Groenewald, incoming CEO of Raysonics Industrial, said:
"Our vision is to build on the foundation and reputation established by Raysonics – which was the local NDT and inspection market leader, with an excellent reputation, when DEKRA Industrial acquired it in 2013. That reputation remains strong today. Through this acquisition, the company will proudly return to its original name and legacy, while transitioning into an exciting new era under committed South African ownership."
The company will retain its current workforce, management team, and service portfolio, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery to clients across key sectors such as construction, energy, mining, and petrochemicals. Its service offerings include advanced NDT, materials testing, inspection, rope access, corrosion control, asset integrity, and lifting services.
Groenewald added: "Clients can expect the same trusted teams and service excellence, now supported by local ownership and decision-making – which is fully invested in South Africa’s industrial future. Through this acquisition, the company is building on a proud legacy of technical excellence and client trust, while positioning itself as a leading South African NDT and inspection provider with a global mindset: rooted in quality and safety, strengthened by experience, and driven by a future-focused vision."
Looking ahead, Raysonics Industrial plans to expand its service portfolio through investments in innovative technologies and stronger partnerships across Southern Africa. Both Raysonics and DEKRA are also exploring opportunities for continued collaboration to enable knowledge sharing and ensure ongoing access to global inspection and NDT best practices.
