Russia’s Cybersteel, a leading manufacturer of high-tech seamless stainless pipes, has supplied 400,000 metres of piping for the construction of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant (NPP) in Egypt. The pipes, intended for the assembly of steam generators, were produced to a custom technical specification in a standard size of 16x1.5 mm using high-strength, wear-resistant 08X18N10T grade steel.

The delivery marks a significant milestone for Cybersteel, which has built a track record supplying the nuclear industry. All pipes underwent comprehensive non-destructive testing, including checks of external and internal surfaces, geometric parameters, and 14 types of specialized tests at Cybersteel’s Cyberlab R&D centre. The metal was also subject to input control, with analyses of non-metallic inclusions, chemical composition, and cobalt content—reduced to 0.015% using atomic absorption spectrometry.

“Cybersteel has a successful experience in supplying products for the nuclear industry – this is the fourth project in the company’s order portfolio for the construction of foreign nuclear power plants,” said CEO Stanislav Velikiy. “A special feature of this order was reducing the cobalt content in the metal threefold to 0.015%, which became possible thanks to the joint work of the company’s specialists and manufacturers to develop a new type of alloy in a short time.”

The El Dabaa NPP, Egypt’s first nuclear power plant, will feature four units with Generation III+ VVER-1200 pressurised water reactors. The $30 billion project is primarily funded through a $25 billion Russian loan, under contracts that took effect in 2017. Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom will supply nuclear fuel throughout the plant’s lifecycle, train Egyptian personnel, and assist in operation and maintenance for the first decade.

The plant, modeled on Russia’s Leningrad-II NPP, is expected to complete construction of all four units by 2028-2029, with full capacity targeted by 2030.
