St. Athan, Wales: UK-based maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) specialist Caerdav has successfully completed its first aircraft transition project for global leasing company Avolon, marking a key milestone under a newly signed general maintenance agreement. The project involved a comprehensive transition check on an Airbus A320, preparing the aircraft for its new operational role in Spain.
Previously in service in Asia, the aircraft underwent a detailed transition process at Caerdav’s St. Athan MRO facility. The work scope included an in-depth airframe inspection, comprehensive systems evaluation, and extensive non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures to verify structural integrity without compromising components. Following a boroscope inspection, the number two engine was replaced to meet performance and reliability standards. Upon completion, the aircraft was cleared to enter service with Barcelona-based low-cost carrier Volotea.

This integration of NDT not only enhances airworthiness assurance but also minimizes downtime during complex transition and redelivery checks—an increasingly critical factor in the global leasing market.

Located at St. Athan, Caerdav provides an accessible, full-service MRO hub that supports Avolon’s fleet of over 1,000 aircraft. The facility specializes in Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 families, offering end-of-lease checks, entry-into-service projects, and customized maintenance solutions.
