BladeBUG has joined Nexxis Technology following the completion of an acquisition aimed at combining complementary robotic inspection technologies, engineering capabilities and resources for wind turbine and other asset inspection applications.

BladeBUG has developed a suction-based robotic platform designed to move across wind turbine blades and other non-ferrous or composite surfaces. The technology supports inspection and maintenance activities by enabling access to these structures through a robotic platform.

Nexxis Technology brings its own robotics portfolio to the combination, including the Magneto electromagnetic robotic platform, modular system architecture, artificial intelligence, machine vision and advanced data capabilities.

Acquisition expands robotic inspection capabilities

The acquisition provides BladeBUG access to Nexxis Technology’s international resources and customer network while bringing the two companies’ complementary robotic technologies together.

From an NDT perspective, the combination focuses on expanding robotic inspection capabilities across different asset surfaces. BladeBUG’s suction-based adhesion technology is designed for non-ferrous and composite surfaces, while Nexxis’ Magneto platform uses electromagnetic adhesion for ferrous metal structures.

The companies’ combined engineering teams will explore opportunities to integrate these technologies and develop robotic inspection solutions for ferrous, non-ferrous and composite assets.

"BladeBUG was founded to make wind turbine inspection and maintenance safer, faster and more effective," said Chris Cieslak, Founder and CEO of BladeBUG.

"Joining Nexxis represents a significant opportunity for our team, our technology and our customers. Nexxis brings complementary robotic capabilities, global reach and deep expertise in robotics, data and inspection technologies. Together, we can accelerate product development, expand into new markets and deliver even greater value to asset owners across the renewable energy sector."

Focus on robotics, AI and inspection data

The acquisition also brings together Nexxis’ modular robotics architecture with artificial intelligence, machine vision and data capabilities. The companies said the combined technologies create opportunities to address a broader range of surfaces, assets and operating environments.

For inspection applications, the focus remains on robotic systems capable of operating on difficult-to-access structures while supporting inspection and data collection.

"Our vision has always been larger than a single product," added Cieslak.

"We believe robotics, automation and data will play a critical role in the future of renewable energy. By joining Nexxis, we are better positioned to help customers improve safety, reduce operational risk and make better-informed maintenance decisions based on high-quality inspection data."

Jason De Silveira, Founder and CEO of Nexxis Technology, said BladeBUG’s technology would strengthen the company’s robotics portfolio and expand its capabilities across renewable energy markets.

"BladeBUG has developed world-class technology and built an outstanding reputation within the wind energy industry," said De Silveira.

"The addition of BladeBUG strengthens our robotics portfolio and expands our capabilities across renewable energy markets globally. We are excited to work alongside Chris and the team as we continue developing innovative solutions for complex inspection challenges."

BladeBUG to continue UK and European operations

BladeBUG’s London headquarters will continue supporting customers, partners and projects across the UK and Europe while becoming part of Nexxis Technology’s international footprint.

Both companies will continue supporting existing customers and commitments during the integration process.

The acquisition has been completed, while financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
