The British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) proudly announces the promotion of Patrick Boulton to the esteemed position of Senior Technical and Certification Engineer within the Technical & Industrial Department. Patrick steps into this role following the retirement of John Moody in July 2023.

Patrick has been a valuable asset to BINDT since 2014, serving as a Technical and Certification Engineer. In this capacity, he has demonstrated a remarkable ability to provide comprehensive technical support to BINDT staff, trustees, the Institute's committees, and various stakeholders. Patrick has also been instrumental in offering individual customer support to PCN certificate holders and extending online technical assistance for critical technical matters.

Patrick's impressive engineering journey commenced in 1990 when he embarked on an Aeronautical Engineering Apprenticeship with British Airways (BA). Over the years, he achieved notable milestones, including his apprenticeship certification, a BTEC in aeronautical engineering, and a role within BA's Boeing 747 heavy maintenance program as an airframe-engine engineer in 1993.

His transition to the British Airways Non-Destructive Testing Department in 1996 marked the beginning of his path to attaining PCN Level 3 and PCN Level 2 certifications in all five major NDT methods. Patrick also earned a certificate in management studies in collaboration with Oxford Brookes University, which equipped him with the skills needed to manage a team of NDT engineers responsible for scheduled and ad hoc NDT inspections on the airline's fleet, including Concorde. His journey continued with his promotion to the airline's Technical Management Group (TMG) before securing the position of Technical and Certification Engineer at BINDT.

Patrick retains his position as a voting member on the UK National Aerospace NDT (NANDT) Board, a testament to his extensive aerospace expertise.

In his new role, Patrick succeeds John Moody, who dedicated a decade of service to BINDT and the NDT industry as a whole. John's profound understanding and experience across NDT methods, training and certification, apprenticeships, engineering registration, and higher education programs significantly contributed to BINDT's and PCN's outstanding global reputation. John's willingness to share knowledge, mentor others, and provide assistance when needed are qualities that have left an indelible mark. While John will continue to support BINDT in select areas occasionally, Patrick is poised to continue his legacy.

Reflecting on his promotion, Patrick Boulton expressed gratitude, saying, "I would like to thank BINDT, the NDT community, and John Moody personally for the opportunity I have been presented with. Because of John's stewardship, knowledge, and understanding of NDT processes and organizations, his good nature, and his ability to see potential in others, I believe I have been equipped with sound foundations on which to build."

BINDT is confident that Patrick Boulton will excel in his new role and contribute significantly to the Institute's continued success.
