Bilfinger has strengthened its investment in the future of non-destructive testing (NDT) by welcoming 12 new apprentices to its NDT Apprenticeship Programme at Hinkley Point C, reinforcing the company's commitment to developing skilled inspection professionals for the UK's nuclear sector.

The apprenticeship programme combines practical, site-based experience with structured training and formal qualification pathways, enabling apprentices to develop the technical expertise, safety-focused mindset, and quality assurance skills required for work in nuclear inspection. The initiative is designed to prepare participants for inspection roles that support the construction and long-term operation of critical energy infrastructure.

Hinkley Point C, located in Somerset, is one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects and the country's first new nuclear power station to be built in a generation. The project is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the UK's long-term energy security by supplying low-carbon electricity to millions of homes.

Bilfinger stated that the programme gives apprentices direct exposure to large-scale construction activities while working alongside experienced inspection and engineering teams. The combination of practical experience and recognised qualifications is intended to build a sustainable pipeline of skilled NDT professionals for the energy industry.

“Developing highly skilled and motivated inspection professionals is essential for the future of our industry. The NDT Apprenticeship Programme at Hinkley Point C demonstrates Bilfinger’s commitment to investing in people, not just projects. By combining hands-on experience on a world-class project with structured training and recognised qualifications, we’re building capability and capacity that will support the UK energy sector for decades to come.

Hinkley Point C provides an exceptional environment for apprentices to learn and grow in confidence, offering exposure to advanced construction processes, uncompromising quality requirements, and a strong safety culture — all underpinned by experienced inspection and engineering teams.” said Dr David Hall, Vice President of Inspection at Bilfinger UK.

The latest intake reflects Bilfinger's continued focus on workforce development as demand grows for qualified NDT personnel capable of supporting quality assurance and asset integrity across the nuclear and wider energy sectors.
