The American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) has announced that Neal J. Couture, FASAE, CAE, will step down as Chief Executive Officer effective October 12, 2026, to pursue a new professional opportunity.
Following the announcement, the ASNT Board of Directors has established a CEO Succession Committee and formally launched the search for Couture's successor. ASNT said its operations will continue without interruption during the transition.
"Neal leaves ASNT a stronger, more global, and more forward-looking organization than the one he inherited. On behalf of the Board, I want to thank him for his years of service and leadership to this Society and this profession. ASNT's work continues without interruption, and our staff team is strong and deeply capable," said Jason Riggs, ASNT President.
Couture has led ASNT since 2019, overseeing several developments across the Society and the wider nondestructive testing (NDT) community.
During his tenure, ASNT established ASNT India and the ASNT Foundation and launched ASNT 9712. He also led the development of ASNT's advocacy program, including an annual Capitol Hill Day that brings together NDT professionals.
Under Couture's leadership, ASNT introduced a free Associate membership, expanded its education and training programs, and refreshed the Society's brand and identity. The organization also reported increased recognition within the global NDT community during his tenure.
The CEO transition comes as ASNT continues its work in professional development, education, standards, advocacy, and the advancement of nondestructive testing and evaluation.
ASNT said additional information regarding the CEO succession process will be shared as it becomes available.
