Alstom and Koleje Mazowieckie have entered into an agreement for the P5 level maintenance of 11 Traxx electric locomotives, reinforcing ongoing efforts to sustain operational reliability across high-capacity rail services in Poland.

The maintenance programme is scheduled for completion between 2026 and 2027. As part of the contract, Alstom will provide a 19-month warranty for each locomotive following its acceptance by the operator. These units play a key role in supporting passenger services across the Masovian Voivodeship and the Warsaw metropolitan region.

A significant component of the overhaul scope includes non-destructive evaluation activities integrated within broader system inspections. The programme will involve comprehensive diagnostics and repair of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Bogie maintenance will incorporate non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT) to assess structural integrity. Additionally, the scope covers detailed inspection and refurbishment of wheelsets, along with renewal of protective coatings and exterior paintwork.

The Traxx fleet has been central to Koleje Mazowieckie’s operations, including the introduction of Poland’s first push-pull train configurations. The overhaul follows a period of intensive utilisation, during which the operator recorded 70 million passengers in 2023.

This contract aligns with the operator’s broader fleet modernisation strategy, which includes the acquisition of 101 new vehicles between 2023 and 2025, including Stadler FLIRT and Pesa units. While Koleje Mazowieckie maintains in-house technical facilities across multiple locations, the P5-level overhauls for the Traxx locomotives—manufactured by Alstom in Wrocław—will be executed by the company’s service division.

Currently, more than 100 Traxx locomotives are in operation across Poland, with an additional 60 Traxx Universal units on order for the domestic market.
