Position Summary:
The Welding Inspector (Specialist – Permanent Joining) provides technical support for Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) services, focusing on the review and approval of welding processes, personnel qualifications, and welding programs. The role ensures compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements while supporting both existing services and market growth in welding-related certification activities.
Responsibilities:
- Independently assess and verify compliance of welding procedures, welder qualifications, and manufacturing activities with applicable codes and standards
- Identify nonconformities, verify corrective actions, and provide objective technical judgments
- Witness onsite welding process tests, procedure qualifications, and welder performance qualifications as per ASME IX, EN ISO 15614, EN ISO 9606, and related standards
- Review documentation including MTRs, calibration records, and NDT reports (VT, UT, PT, RT)
- Prepare Welding Procedure Qualification Records (WPQR) and Welder Test Certificates
- Conduct preliminary reviews of qualification records prior to submission to Notified Body
- Communicate technical issues with the Notified Body for final approvals
- Serve as primary client interface for welding-related inquiries and technical support
- Assist in preparation of quotes and provide technical welding information
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
- Welding coordinator or inspector experience
- Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment, and welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, LBW, PAW)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Experience with EN ISO 15614 / ISO 9606 standards
- Hands-on welding or fabrication experience
- Experience in pressure vessels, boilers, piping, or structural steel
- Experience as manufacturer’s inspector or welding coordinator
- ASNT Level II or ISO 9712 Level II certifications
- Experience performing audits per ISO 9001 or similar
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of experience with AWS, ASME IX, or similar standards
- At least 5 years of experience with NDE/NDT methods
- Valid driver’s license and passport
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 75%
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in physically demanding environments
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work extended shifts
- Capability to perform visual inspections and interpret engineering drawings
- Willingness to undergo background and drug screening
