Position Summary

The Trainee NDT Technician performs non-destructive testing and examination activities under supervision, in accordance with company and client procedures and acceptance criteria. The role focuses on developing technical competence while ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency, with the objective of progressing toward PCN Level 1 certification in one or more NDT disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct NDT inspections under the supervision of a PCN/ASNT Level 2 technician
  • Work towards achieving PCN Level 1 certification in one or more NDT disciplines
  • Carry out daily inspections using welding and NDT methods, keeping the Site Manager/General Manager informed of job progress and status
  • Take ownership of assigned activities to ensure safe, effective, and timely project completion within budget
  • Maintain accurate timesheets, inspection records, and all required documentation
  • Stay current with company, client, and legislative requirements affecting conventional and advanced NDT techniques
  • Ensure all equipment and consumables are calibrated and in proper working condition before use
  • Produce inspection reports in line with company quality procedures and submit them to clients in accordance with Applus+ NDT Reporting Procedures
  • Support the training and development of less experienced team members
  • Provide management with copies of new certifications as they are obtained
  • Understand and adhere to the Inspector Declaration form, maintaining independence, impartiality, and integrity
  • Comply with the Letter of Authorisation, performing only activities authorised for Applus UK Ltd
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by line management

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential
    • No formal qualifications required; this is a trainee role
    • Willingness to learn and work towards PCN Level 1 certification in one or more NDT disciplines
  • Desirable
    • Knowledge of or exposure to NDT techniques
    • Familiarity with services offered by Applus UK
