Position Summary:
The Tank NDT Technician Level II conducts non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections of structures, pipelines, tanks, and other components using radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, leak testing, and visual inspection methods. The role involves operating and calibrating inspection equipment, identifying material defects, completing documentation and work orders, and ensuring inspections are performed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and procedures. The technician also supports safe field operations and provides instruction to assigned assistants.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct non-destructive testing of components and materials in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, procedures, and equipment utilization requirements.
- Perform inspections using appropriate NDT methods including gamma radiography, x-ray radiography, magnetic particle testing, liquid penetrant testing, ultrasonic testing, leak testing, and visual inspections.
- Select, prepare, load, calibrate, and operate equipment used in the testing of materials and products.
- Identify defects in materials using appropriate testing techniques.
- Complete documentation and work orders thoroughly following established protocols and required timeframes.
- Drive company vehicles and maintain a safe driving record.
- Provide instruction to assigned assistants and ensure the safety of the inspection team.
- Perform general cleaning and minor maintenance duties for company vehicles and equipment.
- Inspect equipment and maintain shop areas in a clean, orderly, and functional condition.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated NDT skill, knowledge, or experience.
- Expertise in multiple NDT methods and willingness to continue learning and applying new techniques.
- Intermediate mechanical knowledge.
- Ability to interact professionally with customers and arrive punctually to assignments.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and provide instruction to others when required.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and insurability through PROtect, LLC insurance carrier.
- Certification in the following NDT methods: RT, UT, MT, and PT.
- Tank-specific NDT experience including certifications in MFL, UT, and MT.
- PT and Vacuum Box certifications considered a plus.
- MFL certification required.
- TWIC card preferred.
- Ability to work demanding and flexible schedules, including shifts up to 16 hours and short-notice call-outs.
- Ability to travel long distances and remain on site for extended periods when required.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry objects up to 75 pounds on uneven terrain and occasionally exert force up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle equipment, stand for long periods, walk, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme cold or heat.
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts, electrical components, and chemical exposures.
- Visual acuity required for inspection tasks and ability to meet safety harness weight restrictions.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and willingness to follow and promote safety procedures.
