Job Title: Structural Engineer

Overview:

Carollo Engineers, a nationally recognized environmental engineering firm that specializes in water and wastewater facilities planning, design, and construction, is seeking Structural Engineers at all levels to join our team. Our goal is to become the best water consulting firm, and we are looking for motivated and talented individuals to help us achieve that. As a member of our team, you will work on projects that create and maintain clean, safe, and resilient water supplies across the country.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will vary depending on the level of experience.

Engineer-in-Training:

  • Verify structural design standards, specifications, and typical details for design and construction projects
  • Prepare structural documentation for design and construction projects
  • Participate in field activities, such as site visits, field activities, and structural observations
  • Travel may be required
  • Professional Engineer through Senior Engineer additional responsibilities could include:
  • Plan, monitor, and manage the structural engineering scope, schedule, and budget for successful project completion
  • Perform quality management reviews of structural designs by others and work with designers to understand and resolve issues arising from the review
  • Prepare estimates for cost and schedule of structural engineering services for design and construction
  • Production of Contract Documents for construction of structures, including plans and specifications
  • Conduct on-site investigations and evaluations of existing structures, including the preparation of reports
  • Work with other project team members to understand and integrate their requirements into the structural design
  • Coordinate details of design between various project design disciplines
  • Mentor and train staff and entry-level structural engineers
  • Assist and coach CADD technicians in developing presentations of structural designs
  • Prepare and review opinions of construction costs for structural portion of projects
  • Assist field staff in resolving issues and questions during construction
  • Assist in continuing development and improvement of structural design standards, specifications, and typical details
  • Develop project-specific designs, standards, specifications, and details for unusual or unique situations
  • Travel required when requested
  • Make site visits to observe during construction and operation

Qualifications:

Qualifications will vary depending on the level of experience.

  • Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with Structural Emphasis
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer in the State of California and/or Hawaii or EIT Certification or passed FE exam
  • Ability to apply critical thinking, analysis, and innovative techniques to develop options and recommendations to solve technical problems
  • Experience in the application of building codes and code-referenced standards for the design of water treatment and industrial structures in concrete, steel, and reinforced masonry
  • Highly motivated self-starter with experience working with minimum supervision to determine and complete structural engineering tasks while acting as part of a multi-disciplinary project team
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of specifications for construction using concrete, masonry, and steel
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the presentation of structural design and detailing in construction documents
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of structural design codes and standards
  • Skilled in organizing and coordinating work with both peers and subordinates, and in planning, monitoring, and completing projects within that plan
  • Production and project management skills and experience
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and project teams
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Highly motivated and self-starting
  • Proficient in public speaking roles
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Microstation or AutoCAD
  • Education and Experience (vary depending on hiring level):
  • Engineer-in-Training: 0-2 years of experience in structural design codes and standards
  • Professional Engineer: 2-5 years of experience
  • Mid-level Engineer: 5-12 years of experience
  • Senior-level Engineer: 12+ years of experience"
