Position Summary:
The Storage Tank Inspector is responsible for providing inspection and assessment services for above-ground flat-bottomed storage tanks. The role involves performing inspections in accordance with established inspection plans, coordinating non-destructive testing activities, assessing defects, and preparing inspection documentation. The inspector works closely with client contacts to plan and execute inspections while ensuring compliance with recognized safety systems and engineering standards.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct examinations of storage tanks in accordance with inspection plans and schemes.
- Undertake and/or oversee necessary non-destructive testing (NDT) activities during inspections.
- Coordinate third-party NDT providers for specialist techniques or extensive inspection requirements.
- Assess and grade defects identified during inspections and assist in determining remedial actions or recommendations.
- Assist with the specification and coordination of repairs.
- Prepare and issue inspection reports and certificates, including supporting documentation such as photographs, NDT reports, and assessment calculations.
- Liaise with client contacts regarding inspection planning and execution.
- Work strictly in accordance with recognized safe systems of work including PTW, RAMS, and CSE.
Qualifications:
- Engineering technical qualification such as ONC, HNC, NVQ Level 4, BTech, or Degree.
- Mechanical engineering background.
- Understanding of engineering principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to accurately follow procedures.
- Capability to work independently and make decisions.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ambition to learn and progress.
Preferred / Desired:
- Certified EEMUA 159 Tank Assessor or Inspector (API 653 may be considered).
- NDT certification in UT and surface flaw detection methods such as PT or MT (e.g., PCN).
- Understanding of fabrication processes and NDT.
- Experience in the chemical and/or oil and gas industries.
Requirements:
- Willingness to travel and work on client sites within the UK and potentially overseas.
